“Zumba = -Anxiety Attacks” (A FB Guest Blog From Patrisia)

Hey my fellow SoLas. A few weeks ago I blogged about having daily severe anxiety attacks and how I was already on medication. Well, here’s something my sister encouraged me to try and I want to share my experience and results.

About two months ago I was having another severe anxiety attack. I couldn’t stop crying. I felt like dying. It was so bad that I texted my younger sister and asked her if she would accompany me to the hospital. Her answer was yes! “But”, she said, “Why don’t we go to ZUMBA first and if you still feel bad, then we’ll go to the hospital.” When we got to the class, I was shaking as I walked in and out of the building. With my eyes full of tears and with shortness of breath, I thought to myself, “How can I exercise if I can’t even breathe right?” My mind was telling me to give up and leave but I fought it and decided to proceed with the class. It’s a very fun workout. I sweated like crazy and one hour later I was so tired that I forgot all about my anxiety attack.

So as you can imagine, I made it a daily routine. I attend a ZUMBA class from Monday through Saturday for about one hour a day. My teacher works every part of my body. I’m barely going on one month and I have lost 7 pounds. I’ve completely left my meds and have not gotten an anxiety attack at all. Currently I’m going through a minor depression due to my menopause but I sweat it out at ZUMBA.

I truly recommend to people dealing with anxiety to go ahead and find any type of workout that will truly make you sweat. See if your anxiety starts to go away or at least decreases a little. At first I thought this was a waste of time but ever since I started ZUMBA, I feel good, more attractive, more energetic and less stressed. My anxiety has completely stopped and, well, I don’t plan on giving up ZUMBA just yet. I just wanted to share this with you guys. I really recommend it.
