Sexual Health Expert Destiny Lopez – "Why Was There An Odorless White Discharge While I Was Having Sex?"

QUESTION: Hi. I’m 23 and the other night I had sex for the first time in 2 years. It had been a while! My partner used a condom but when we were having sex, he pulled out one time and we both noticed a white type of cream that was covering most of his condom. We didn’t use lube or anything so I’m not sure where it came from. There wasn’t any odor either. I was kind of embarrassed. Any idea what this type of discharge was? Was it because I hadn’t had sex in such a long time? That’s what I think it is but I wanted to get a professional’s opinion.

DESTINY’S ADVICE: Hi. There’s probably nothing to worry about. It is most likely a normal secretion that you just haven’t noticed before. Your body may produce more of the secretion while you are having intercourse.

There are two other whitish secretions to think about. One is associated with a type of vaginitis caused by a yeast infection. But yeast infections usually cause painful intercourse, so that doesn’t seem likely. The other is bacterial vaginosis, another kind of vaginitis, but that has an unpleasant odor, so it is unlikely as well.

If you do experience irritation or discomfort in your vagina, see a health care provider to get it checked out. Otherwise the secretion you describe seems normal, and you have nothing to be embarrassed about.

Suerte, and here’s to your continued good sexual health.
