QUESTION: I bleached my hair a few weeks ago and now my hair is breaking. Do you know any Latina home remedies for hair breakage?
YVETTE’S ADVICE: Unfortunately, breakage occurs automatically with bleach (at least 80% of the time) because the natural proteins and keratin of the hair are stripped out (key words: protein and keratin). Any treatments rich in protein and keratin will help your hair reconstruct itself or at least become stronger against future damage. I have found that the CHI brand products work great with my hair…and I bleach my hair at least once a month. CHI products have high keratin levels which is one of the main components in the hair.
As far as home remedies go, some people do a mayonnaise treatment which does increase the health of hair but has the disadvantage of oiliness. Others do an avocado treatment which is also great but has the same disadvantage. If your hair is dry you’d be able to get good results with these treatments but if your hair is oily your results might be a huge mess! I’m not a big fan of home remedies because most of the time it’s just one huge nightmare. However, here’s a list of things that might help: coconut milk, castor oil, almond oil, olive oil, avocado, mayonnaise, lavender oil, cucumber, egg yolks, ect.
Hope this information helps mama!
